DubaiMarch 5, 2024: As part of its participation in the “Emirates Innovation Month,” the Federal Tax Authority organized the “Hackathon” event at the Youth Center (Dubai) in the Emirates Towers, in cooperation with SAP, which specializes in the field of technology and applications and is the Authority’s strategic partner in the field of digital transformation.

During the event, the Authority reviewed the participating innovative technical projects and solutions that aim to address the challenges of the tax sector in several areas and enhance frameworks of cooperation and partnership between government, private and educational agencies.

Since the announcement of the “Hackathon” event, the Authority has received 15 projects in the areas of raising the level of tax awareness in society, using technology and modern techniques to facilitate procedures and submitting tax returns for small and medium-sized companies and combating tax evasion, through the target groups of the “Hackathon” , which included developers and programmers. People with diverse technical expertise and programming skills, university students who have new and modern visions, in addition to entrepreneurs and company owners, and representatives of government agencies and society may have in-depth knowledge of tax policies and financial legislation that contribute to developing the tax system. During the event, more qualitative ideas and projects were received.

His Excellency Khaled Ali Al Bustani, Director General of the Federal Tax Authority, stressed the Authority’s keenness to formulate and implement projects and initiatives that embrace innovation and advanced technology as basic pillars for improving the system of services provided by the tax sector in the UAE and developing proactive solutions to address challenges, and by strengthening the bonds of cooperation and partnership with various entities. Governmental, private and specialists concerned with this sector.

His Excellency added: “The hackathon event within National Innovation Month contributed to highlighting innovators from various categories and benefiting from  their capabilities and innovations that support the Authority’s strategy for digital transformation and providing tax solutions of high quality and efficiency by the best standards followed globally.”

The Authority announced that the projects and solutions presented will be evaluated in preparation for the stage of honoring the pioneering solutions in the top three positions and examining potential opportunities for their owners to cooperate with the Authority. It will be subject to precise standards that include employing creativity and innovation and using data to design solutions, in addition to the quality of the solution and the possibility of using it and designing it with high quality and presenting a prototype to work with, in addition to the use of technology and its quality, and the impact and benefits provided by the solution with the presence of  an applicable plan and the feasibility of its implementation to continue the work.
